On Olympics Lip-syncing

I was browsing on Yahoo’s homepage for tidbits of news and I read this lip-syncing story about the Beijing Olympics opening night. Officials of the ceremony admitted that they chose Lin Miaoke to appear for the performance of Ode to the Motherland while lip syncing to the voice of one Yang Peiyi. Apparently, the latter was not cute enough. Aw I feel bad about this; of course she’s cute, she’s a 7-year-old girl. How can they snub a little kid? Chen Qigang, the general music designer of the ceremony, said that they did this because they “wanted to project the right image”. Haha and what kind of image is that?

I also liked the part where the article says that the interview with Chen “appeared briefly on the news website Sina.com before it was apparently wiped from the Internet in China”.

Thinking Green

I read an article in Yahoo which talks about how saving or leaving coins lying around in our houses is not a good idea. This is because coins are printed from non-renewable resources and the more we are keeping coins out of circulation, more has to be printed out, and more resources are wasted. I’m a bit guilty because my piggy reserve has been full for weeks now and I’ve been ignoring it. And I know my mom has a ziploc bag full of pennies hehehe. Incidentally, this earth-friendly suggestion was made by Coinstar. Sure they profit from people using their machines to change coins but the suggestion makes sense so I don’t begrudge them whatever they will be earning from this.
