I knew UP would be good and I wasn’t disappointed when we went to see it. *** Spoilers ahead ***
- the character Fredericksen was surprisingly human (read not perfect). He has had a bittersweet life. He found his soul mate in his wife Ellie who is a fellow adventurer at heart. They expected to have a child but they lost the baby. This part really pulled at my heartstrings. They were able to bounce back together by having a common dream to explore South America and see Paradise Falls. But they got older and Fredericksen eventually lost Ellie and he became this grumpy old person who wouldn’t give up his home, which he personified as Ellie. This is where his adventure began.
- I loved Russell! Our little wilderness explorer who just wanted to earn his “assisting the elderly” badge so his father, who he barely sees since his parents split up, can pin it on his uniform. He’s an innocent, good hearted boy and he has the cutest/funniest facial expressions hahaha. Minsan gusto mo siyang batukan kasi ang kulit eh.
Ellie: “It’s like America, but South.”
Carl Fredricksen: Do you want to play a game? It’s called See Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.
Russell: Cool! My mom loves that game!
- The animation was amazing. I love the balloons, so colorful hahaha. And the inside of the house looks very warm and homey. Up didn’t look like the “shiny” animation of other Pixar movies but not exactly life like, but sort of.
- There’s a lot of sad and tender scenes in the movie. One of my favorites is when Fredericksen saw Ellie’s scrapbook towards the end and he realized what he’s supposed to do. I nearly cried when I saw the chairs outside the house. It was a happy ending but it’s the kind of happy that makes you want to cry. In the end Fredericksen and Russell found a family in each other.

And you know what else is funny, I watched this movie with my brothers and we were the only ones in the theater hahaha. It’s like a private screening. We went a little after lunch and all the kids and their parents showed up for next showing.
The park and my running shoes are my new best friends. I hope I can keep this up even when I get a new job. I figured I’ll work 4-5 days a week and still go out running on my days off, or maybe go after or before work. I can now jog/run 1/4 mile without stopping. Yay! I know that doesn’t sound so impressive but I’m getting there hahaha. 3 weeks ago I can’t even run half of that without stopping to catch my breathe. And well, I’m still flabby around the middle but there’s no rush. I want to lose weight little by little, I hear that’s the best way to do it and to keep it off. And losing weight has become secondary to the rush I feel while I’m out there and the energy I feel the rest of the day.
